Bone transport for infected tibial nonunion/ bone defect

Patient: Jeanne

She developed an infection and a tibial nonunion above the ankle. This required removal of dead infected bone. The ankle joint was preserved.

An Ilizarov/ Taylor Spatial Frame was used for bone transport.

Gradual lengthening of a proximal tibial osteotomy led to reconstruction of the defect.

A 9 cm proximal tibia lengthening and complete healing of the distal tibia nonunion was achieved.

Infection was eradicated.
