Lengthening and then Nailing (LATN) of a Femur Malunion

Doctor: S. Robert Rozbruch

Patient: Philip

Philip had a deformity (20 degrees varus, external rotation) and shortening (3.2 cm) of his femur. His problems included feeling off balance and back pain.

Acute correction of his deformity was accomplished percutaneously and then gradual lengthening was done with a monolateral frame.

After three weeks an intrameduallary rod was inserted and the frame was removed.

Complete deformity correction, leg length equalization, and rapid bony healing were accomplished.

Now, Philip has no deformity and is symmetrical.

The rod was subsequently removed.
